In partnership with MEMIC, we are seeking an experienced and collaborative Chief Human Resources Officer to join their senior leadership team and report directly to the President and CEO.  The MEMIC Group, specializing in workers’ compensation insurance, is experiencing one of the most exciting moments in its 30-year history in which innovative recruiting, professional development, and retention will be essential.

This senior-level position plays a critical role in driving the company’s continued growth and financial results.  Headquartered with a view of the harbor in beautiful downtown Portland, Maine with service teams distributed throughout the country, the CHRO will be a highly visible leader in all dimensions of the employment relationship and the creative practices that support job satisfaction and encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion.  Expected to be an influential and inspiring team player, the successful candidate will effectively build trusted relationships and engage with many stakeholders within and beyond the organization. The CHRO is responsible for the continued development and execution of HR strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of MEMIC specifically in the areas of talent management, recognition, succession planning, compliance, compensation, payroll, benefits, 401K, incentive compensation, performance management, and training and development.  This is a hands-on CHRO role managing a tenured team of 20.

To be considered for this role, here are the skills and experience we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with ten to fifteen years of HR leadership experience.
    A good educator who is collaborative, transparent, and a role model for mentorship and trusted partnerships.
  • A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, curiosity, good judgment, and strong operational focus.
  • An experienced and conscientious leader and human resources executive with appropriate industry experience.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to the Board of Directors and external audiences.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • An articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
