Program Description: Work and Community Ready – which serves three populations: male and female prisoners and also residents at Crossroads for Women.
Approximately five years ago the Maine Department of Corrections Work & Community Ready program approached the Human Resources Association of Southern Maine and asked if our members were interested in developing a partnership to facilitate round-table discussions, to review resumes and portfolio materials, and perform mock interviews with male inmates at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham, ME. We said Yes! Then in 2010 Crossroads for Women (a residential treatment for women of all ages and backgrounds for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues in Portland, ME) approached our Association indicating that their women could benefit from the same program serving the inmates. Again we said Yes! The program continues to grow, and in 2011 the prison program was modified and offered to female prisoners at the same Windham, ME location. We continue to say Yes and beginning in October 2012 the program expanded thirty miles south to the Southern Maine Re-entry Center on the grounds of the York County Jail in Alfred, ME. The Human Resources Association of Southern Maine continues to partner with these worthy organizations.
